Construction Blog - First Day of Editing

When it came to editing we found that skills learned from the previous year, had come into play. This meant that our knowledge of editing had further increased meaning we could show more advaced forms and techniques e.g our time lapse & greenscreen are things we werent capable of doing last year. Like last year we are still using Adobe Premiere CS4. However, we are also using after effects for the green screen we are still to shoot.

When I had to edit the first day of filming i found it easy to set up the sequence as we had filmed that day follwing the script this meant that the footage on the camera was rougly where it had to be from the beggining this meant I could simply import all the clips from that day into premiere i then procedded to drag and drop each scene after i had edited it e.g cutting certain bits out such as sound as the footage didnt need any audio as it was to be played alongside the audio track (Pierce the Veil - Falling asleep on a Stranger). This meant that every clip had to be 'Unlinked' which meant the clip was separated into Video file and Audio file.

I then cut the the videos audio and replaced it to that of the audio track we wanted from here we could align the video with the song, this is known as being in sync. This techniques is used in music videos often as well as big time movie producers as their cameras only record video footage, they have equipment that records and the pairs audio onscreen e.g Microphone. As we are buget this meant we had to do it this way.

To edit the individual clips in the sequence I used the razor tool this then sliced the section i wanted meaning it was now separate for me to use e.g move it, delete it, add transition, slow it down etc. In most cases for the clips i simply cut certain clips out as they were too long or had slight camera shakes at the beggining or end due to the record button being pressed to hard.

Another piece of editing we had to do was a time lapse this is where the camrea stays still on looking something that will change in time e.g the weather. We used this technique on the sky to show the progression from light to dark. I had self-taught myself this technique by experimenting with premiere when I came across a tool where I could speed up the indivual clip of choice so I made sure I would use this to my advantage when scripting the video.

I am still yet to add transition techniques and text introducing the song e.g who its by and who sung it etc.
